93) A Belief In Magic Can Be Empowering
Magic may have emerged out of ancient religions in response to a need for individual empowerment by people to deal with cultural and societal pressures, concerns, and anxieties. Some suggest that the practice of magic enabled people during the ancient times to have a greater sense of self while simultaneously revitalizing their spiritual and religious beliefs. Magicians were considered powerful individuals in their society and some even had followings.
Hermetic magic has been credited as being credited as being the forerunner of several magic and mystical orders as well as medieval alchemy in the western mystery tradition. The Hermetic path encompasses eclectic spiritual beliefs and even finds some resonance in pagan Gnosticism.
